Checking Things off My List

I’m pretty sure that I’ve said it before, but I’m a list maker.  When we were preparing to pack everything up in The Netherlands and move out of our house, I had a huge list.  I was so happy to check those things off.  When we got back to the US, I made another list.  I’m happy to say that I have two things left on that list, and I hope to cross them off today.

Find a car: check.  Find a place to live: check.  Since we’ve gotten here,  we got a car and have found a place to live.  We won’t be able to move in until the first of July, but that’s ok because we’re busy traveling until then anyway.  (I guess that I should really put finding furniture and moving on the list, but I’ll wait since there’s nothing I can do about if for a while.)

Plan and have first service: check. We had our first service in Wichita Falls, TX last Sunday.  It was at the church of good friends (who actually weren’t there).  It felt a little strange being back in an American church and being applauded as heroes.  That has always made me uncomfortable.  I always say that we’re just ordinary people serving God in a different place.  We’re really uncomfortable with self-promotion, and we might miss out on some opportunities because of that, but we believe that God will take care of us.

This Sunday we have another service and then have North Texas district meetings which begin on Monday.  When those are finished, we have a few days before going on a short holiday with our family and getting back in time for more services including two sets of camps for kids.  Camps are always so much fun.  I describe it like they would say it in Dutch: Het kost energie maar het geeft energie. (It costs energy but it gives energy.)

See family: check (Ok, I can’t really check this off because there is a lot of family to see.  In my immediate family, I still want to see my two sisters and their families.  Being so spread out really stinks sometimes!)  I was so lucky to have my parents come out to Texas from Arkansas to see us.  They were able to stay with my brother.  They have been housing a lot of the things we used when we were here 4 years ago and brought it out to us.  It’s nice to know that I won’t have to go get all new things for my kitchen!  Last night, we said goodbye to them.  We’ll see them again in July, when we have services and a camp in Arkansas.  We’re planning on staying with them the majority of the month.  I’ve said that ‘goodbye’ is the worst word in any language because it usually brings me pain.  However, last night, when I said goodbye and knew that it wouldn’t be years before I saw them again, it wasn’t too bad.

Have photo shoot and get prayer cards printed: check. My sister-in-law is a fantastic photographer.  We’ve used her services in the past – ok for as long as she’s been in the family.  She was so wonderful to us and did a great photo shoot for us.  We were going to  go with printers we have used in the past to make prayer cards, but we needed a temporary one until they could be printed.  She designed something for us, and we realized that we should just use her to do it all.  She’s fantastic.  Here’s a sneak peak of what our cards will look like.

It’s great to read that you guys are finding your way around!
Did you have on your list: visit friends?! Just kidding. Even though there is no ocean between us now, there is a ‘bit’ of land between us.
Anyway. I wish you a blessed move and hope you’ll have lots of services to go to and raise the money you guys need!
Great to read up on this journey :).
