I know what you’re thinking. It’s Spring in Holland. Surely you’ve got some tulips around. Of course we do. In fact, we have a few in our front yard. They’re so pretty that I don’t want to pick them. I just enjoy looking at them in the ground. One thing I love here is when we go into Leiden. There’s a farmer who sells flowers pretty cheaply. Today we went by, and I saw that he was selling 5 bundles for 5 euros. That’s 50 flowers for 5 euros. Do the math! You can’t get anything priced like that in America. I brought them home, and they were too much for my large vase, so I had to add an additional vase. Beautiful!

I’ve heard from some of my friends in The Netherlands that spring is there. I wish I was too! One of the things I really miss about The Netherlands is all the flowers. I remember going into Leiden and buying 30 tulips for 5 euros. With the dollar like it is today, that would be around $6.50. I was shocked to see how much flowers cost in America. I really miss having fresh flowers in my home, but I will have to wait until I get back to The Netherlands for that. Most things in America are cheaper, but definitely not flowers.

Today is St. Patrick’s Day. When I first explained this holiday to Grace, she freaked out a little. She called it “The Pinching Holiday.” It’s her first in America that she can remember. They don’t celebrate it in The Netherlands. Well, our Irish friends there do, but it is nothing like it is in America.
